Mother lets Daughter hold her brother, and when Daughter attempts to flee, Mother chases her.
Daughter aims a gun at her but Mother reveals that she is every robot on Earth - all one consciousness. Daughter pleads with Mother to let her raise the brother on her own, and Mother acquiesces, letting Daughter shoot her, destroying that body. The movie also needlessly delays the arrival of the movie's second, rival "mother" figure (Hilary Swank's character), mostly fails to develop the idea of her as a plausible rival for the daughter's affections, then effectively waves away what little we were given by implying that she was an early version of Daughter and part of some kind of. I Am Mother's script, which was generating buzz long before it got produced and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival (where Netflix picked it up), transforms the most loving and trusted figure in a young girl's life into a robot.
